I am 1 of those who believe in Ashbringer. And i don't care what people say. Its a great story and thats the most importen thing for me. People said it would maybe come in patch: 1. But it doesn't. So maybe it is already in the game. The things i like about it, is the story and mysteri. Playing pve and pvp gets boring, wow gets boring, and then u need some new experianse, discorver something no1 ever did. Why Belive in God, when we all know he isn't real?

The cleansed ashbringer that everyone is talking about is available in expansion from cleansing "corrupted" ashbringer and hence has better stats.

The fishing thing probably gets you a note in a bottle or something, and you can use that to help finish the prince's story. I'll bet that the moment a raid gets close to obtaining the ashbringer, tons of NPCs and GMs will storm in, clearing everyone out, and banning their account.

The prince in DM lead was interesting but since no one has been succesful in getting information out of him i would assume it is merely to throw people off yes blizz would do that The next step would be to make a post here if u have fished that river with a skill of over i would ask you list your exact skill how long u fished approximatly and anything else you may think would contribute.

Try using a 2h against a any tank or duel wield warrior. Even better, see what happens when a rogue stun locks you, you can use heroic strike, but you'll never hit them cuz your wep is too slow.
Comment by Allakhazam The reason this is a pally wep is because the holy damage on the sword stacks with judgement of crusader increasing holy effects by 70 or so. ALSO, when a pally has spell damage gear, that also stacks! That could turn into or even extra damage per hit. Combine that with seal of command, which is also affected by judge of crusader, and you're doing about double damage per hit!

A quest in Blackwing Lair, or is it fished? Edited, Fri Jul 15 Not debating if it's a hunter sword if you think it is sorry for you. My one question to pallies is what about the speed issue? I have heard from numerous sources that the speed of a weapon is a huge deciding factor for what is good for a pally and what is awesome for a pally. Something to do about the SoC proc chances per minute versus the number of swings you get. End result is I was always told that the slower the weapon is the better.
Assuming it has a high end point for dmg which this beast obviously does. Is this true or not? And if so wouldn't the speed on this weapon be more detremental to a pally than benefical?

The only way to get some decent ones is the defiler spaulders from being Exalted in AB or the new drops from Silithus. Comment by Allakhazam to obtain the pre quest for ashbringer you will need the trinket " Spectral Essence" when you equip this and walk to the cave near the river in wpl you will see a dead npc " Scarlet highlord" he will tell you that he lost his sword in the river and now begins the fishing, you will have to fish until you find a bottle that begins a quest, this is the prequest for The legendary weapon "Ashbringer".

Then you save Thrall Rend Blackhands brother take him through the portal, then you go through the last portal and you complete the quest. This is only what ive heared on Websites and whatnot.

I must say, it looks great, and no other item currently implemented has those graphics, so who knows. It can also be graphics that exist but aren't yet used, except on some emulated server. The dialogue explains that Tirion was convinced by his advisors to travel to Valgarde in disguise, while Ares the Oathbound was entrusted to transport the sword separately to Northrend.

However, with the link between Ashbringer and paladins, if a player-usable version will ever exist, it will be hard to believe that blizzard would either restrict such a powerful weapon to paladins since really just 1 spec can use it, and you'll have like, max in raid , or let other classes to wield it that would be so against the lore.
I'm more inclined to believe it might be implemented as part of the Arthas encounter like the legendary weapons for Kael'thas , perhaps there will be a cutscene halfway through the fight where Tirion duels Arthas and the Ashbringer broke into pieces, while we continue to fight with the broken pieces. Who knows. Anyway these are just pure guessworks, it will get more apparent as the game progresses.

Though there is currently only one Ashbringer, it may become possible to go back in time and collect the crystal used to forge the Ashbringer just as The Master's Key was obtained from Medivh in the past though the pieces needed to be collected first when the need to enter Karazhan arose.
Perhaps a questline will be implemented to forge a new Ashbringer or reforge the current one if something were to happen to it It may involve going to David Wayne to forge it, or perhaps King Magni, if he was the one who forged it the first time though this would be a problem for the Horde.
I don't really see Tirion giving it up any time soon, but a lot of players want Ashbringer to be obtainable, and giving it to us in any expansion after Wrath would be pointless. While I would be eager for Ashbringer to become obtainable, I as a mage would rather see a legendary item for casters become obtainable first, seeing as when it comes to legendary weapons, casters got the shaft or rather, didn't get it when the ability to obtain Atiesh was removed.

Comment by Naris17 I suspect that if Blizzard ever caves into player pressure and allows the blade to be used probable , I think it would be a good idea to make the journey for the Ashbringer similar to the Gates of AQ event. That way only one person per server would ever have this unique item and it would force a great deal of cooperation between the two factions and player base as a whole.
Actually it would be nice to have a massive server wide event in general. Given that the AQ is gone and done with permanently now there really should be something to take its place. EDIT: Darth below me makes a good point. However, I don't think it would be difficult for Blizzard to program in a "Bind on server" status for the unique Ashbringer if they were to do this. Well, at least I don't think it would be difficult Either way, they could still just make one Ashbringer per server.

When the Patch to kill Arthas is put in, Tirion Fordring will join you in the fight, at the end he dies or survives and Tirion gives you Ashbringer for your deed for killing Arthas and Ashbringer becomes a openable object by him, thus being Loot mastered.

Suposidly, it can be dropped by the High Lord in the Scarlet wing of Stratholme. But its extremelly rare, and so nobody using the wowhead addon has yet gotten it, therefore the sourse being unknown in the databases.
Don't take my word for it though, its just another theory. It may have even been released when the Gates of Ahn Quiraj were opened. Comment by Alright, here's my honest speculation: It is said that evil cannot exist without it's polar opposite: good. I'm guessing that the only way we'll be able to kill Arthas is by somehow using the Ashbringer to shatter Frostmourne or cripple him Like in the DK ending quest, how Fordring gives him quite a strong blow. So either Fordring is gunna join in on the fight or we'll have some kind of uber quest chain to get it. This is purely speculation however and could possibly all be bull!

The ashbringer makes you freindly with the scarlet crusade so i thought that in wotlk you could be friendly with the scarlet onslaught A branched out version of the crusade that accepts people like death knights and shadow mages for those who didnt know So this may lead to you finding Mograines other son as the onslaught is in northend and most of his family was involved with the scarlet.

Comment by Gnoktish it has been announced in Blizzcon that Frostmourne will not be obtainable, it is far too dangerous for anyone to weild and so they decided to replace it with Shadowmourne , Frostmourne will be destroyied by Tirion Fordring and will release all the spirits that Arthas has incased it within.
Younger Saurfang will be released! Highlord Saurfang will have one less target to cleave! Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian might be added in Cataclysm for casters, i don't know but, maybe Archeology maybe uncover the pieces for the staff!

If there were quests introduced where you could play as Tirion wielding the Ashbringer, like the quests you got to play as Arthas, that would be a good way to keep the lore going. His appearance resembles the younger Alexandros Mograine, and his smithing skills are somewhat unique - based on the quest items the player gathers for him. Nothing ever progressed as far as Ashbringer is concerned during The Burning Crusade's lifetime, and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King events makes his involvement in Ashbringer highly unlikely.
The crossguard on the Ashbringer is in the shape of the Lordaeron symbol. It was revealed during a Class Panel discussion that players won't be able to purify the Corrupted Ashbringer , and events as related above bear this out.
