Leatherface screams throughout the film. When Heather temporary escapes from his hands into a storage room, he screams. After he throws her into a box and she keeps opening it, he continues to scream. He also screams after killing Barry. When he does so, it worries his brother W. Leatherface appears to be the weakest in this generation of the family and is hurt by the fighting that occurs.
His brother W. During a fight between Vilmer, Darla, and W. During dinner, while dressed in a drag, Leatherface is seen doing his nails. At one point Vilmer mentions how his brother Leatherface is tired of his current female face and wants a new one. Leatherface appears to be devastated over it. He screams and emulates the infamous chainsaw dance seen in the original. The prequel reveals that they do eat the meat of their victims; the remake only implies this.
Due to this disfigurement, his muteness and mental retardation carried over from the first series , other children bullied the boy. He wore a small leather mask to cover up his deformity, and worked at the same meat factory where he was born, for the same boss as his mother - the same man who had left him for dead. He also had a tendency toward self-mutilation, and a doctor diagnosed him as suffering from a type of neurodegeneration at age After health inspectors shut the factory down, Hewitt's boss and a reluctant co-worker ordered him to leave.
When Hewitt didn't, the boss and the co-worker bullied him, calling him a "retard" and a "dumb animal". Acting on a long-burning rage, Hewitt killed his boss with a sledgehammer. He later discovered the chainsaw he used as a weapon after searching the now abandoned factory.
When Winston Hoyt, the local sheriff, tried to apprehend him, Thomas' uncle, Charlie Hewitt came to his aid and killed the sheriff with his own gun. Charlie later assumed the sheriff's identity. Although Leatherface's family still manipulate him in this interpretation, they do show themselves somewhat more caring for him and less abusive than in the original film. Before killing the sheriff, his uncle Charlie even defends him by saying, "He's not retarded, he's misunderstood. At the climax of the remake, protagonist Erin Hardesty cuts off Leatherface's chainsaw-wielding arm with a meat cleaver, and Erin is able to escape him, though Leatherface survives the cleaver attack.
Leatherface escapes after police discover his ranch house and find the remains of 33 people. The police fail to secure the crime scene properly, allowing Leatherface to attack and kill two officers. Leatherface then escapes and disappears, and the case remains open.
Andrew Bryniarski, who portrayed Leatherface in the remake, states: "In my estimation, Leatherface is like a beaten dog — he was ostracized and ridiculed, and treated harshly by his peers. The psychological damage they inflicted was immense — there's no chance for him. But the teasing he suffered, coupled with a bad temper, and following Hoyt around like a puppy dog, left room for Hoyt to get absolute control.

TCM 2 was also directed by Hooper, and is the only movie that exists in the same timeline as the original. Chop Top, apparently, was away in Vietnam at the time of the first movie, but has returned with PTSD and a metal plate in his head.
This was the last TCM movie Hooper would direct, so he went out with a bang and killed the whole damn family. His name was W. Sawyer, a character not previously introduced; a jury determined that Leatherface was the murderous alter ego of W.
That means this mystery lone Sawyer was dead before the events of TCM 2 — which is our first example of the post-Hooper Massacre movies deviating from what happened in the first two chapters. Be forewarned: Continuity is going to get crazy from here on out. One thing is for sure: Leatherface is very much his own man in TCM 3 , and there are more Sawyers left killing people in Texas.
In the finale, Tex, Alfredo, and grandma are killed, and even though Leather has his head beaten in with a giant rock, he rises again before the end. The prologue references the events of the original, which took place on August 18, , and says that no family members were apprehended. Since the W.
